About GARIMA
The Garima Program is a transformational initiative under Adarsh Bal Gram (ABG) that strengthens gender equity, child protection, menstrual health, life skills, and adolescent wellbeing in rural communities.
Garima creates safe, informed, and empowered ecosystems where adolescent girls and their families can grow with dignity, confidence, and opportunity.
Garima ensures that ABG communities become child-friendly, gender-sensitive, and protective, enabling adolescents to thrive and fulfil their aspirations.
Garima Program Vision
To empower adolescent girls by building self-confidence, awareness, agency, and life skills, while enabling families and communities to create safe, healthy, and gender-equal environments.
Two-Year Program Goals (2025–27)
By 2027, Garima aims to build strong, safe, gender-sensitive communities by achieving:
- 500 functional Garima Manch as community platforms for mothers, girls, and women
- 50 communities with skilled, trained Garima Didis as frontline facilitators
- 80% adolescent girls (12–18 yrs) consistently using safe & hygienic menstrual practices
- Reduced anaemia levels among adolescents; increased awareness and IFA adherence
- 100 schools certified as “Safe Schools” through SEP’s safety & protection framework
- Zero child marriage & zero dropouts in Garima intervention communities
- Responsive reporting systems for abuse, violence, and child protection issues in all schools
100% students of grades 9–10 receiving life skills, career guidance & cyber safety sessions

Significant Milestones Achieved by Garima
Key Components of the Garima Program
At the heart of GARIMA initiative lies a safe and sensitive platform where women can speak openly and confidently. Led by trained local leaders known as Garima Didis, the program fosters trust through cultural understanding and shared experiences. Group discussions and interactive workshops become spaces for learning, storytelling, and support. By involving men and the wider community, the initiative promotes a more inclusive dialogue on gender equality — one rooted in respect, awareness, and collective progress.

Garima Manch (Community-Based Intervention)
Safe learning and dialogue spaces for adolescent girls, mothers, and women across 250 communities, enabling awareness on menstrual health, parenting, gender equality, rights, cyber safety, and life skills.

School-Based Interventions (200 Government Schools)
Monthly thematic sessions, Bal/Kishor Sabha activation, parent–SMC engagement, menstrual hygiene awareness, cyber safety, and installation of complaint boxes - creating gender-sensitive, safe schools.

Safe School Certification
A structured certification process ensuring schools meet benchmarks on safety, hygiene, child protection, gender inclusion, and complaint systems.
Target:25 schools certified per year

Girls Rising - Sports for Development
Sports as a tool to build confidence, teamwork, resilience, and leadership among adolescent girls. Expanding from 20 to 40 villages, reaching 1,000 girls through weekly coaching.

Garima Peer Educators
A youth-led initiative developing 150 adolescent girl leaders who spread awareness on menstrual hygiene, child protection, gender equality, life skills, and safe digital behavior.

Community Connect (Sankalp on Wheels)
Mobile outreach delivering awareness, health camps, sanitary pad support, digital sessions, and street plays to underserved areas. Includes: 24 health camps/year, 24 awareness events/year, 5,000 sanitary pads/month.
Target:25 schools certified per year

ECCE - Anganwadi Transformation Program
A dedicated initiative to improve early childhood care and education (ECCE) in Anganwadi centres.
- 15 Garima Fellows trained by a reputed ECCE institution
- Fellows will implement structured early learning activities
- Improved foundation in language, motor skills, social-emotional development

ABG Support Group – Community Leadership Platform
A large-scale community engagement initiative to build local ownership and sustainability.
- 5,000+ community members trained and mobilized
- Includes SHGs, parents, PRI members, CPCs, teachers, youth, and frontline workers
- Support groups act as ABG advocates promoting safety, education, menstrual health, and protection
- Strengthens long-term continuity of Garima and ABG interventions
