'Bedhadak Bolo' an empowerment initiative under Project Garim
‘Sankalp Ek Prayas’ is a dedicated non-governmental organization that is doing remarkable work in the field of social empowerment, education and health in rural areas. One of the major projects of this organization is ‘Garima’, which aims to make adolescent girls and women aware, self-reliant and empowered.
Bedhadak Bolo, run under the Garima Project, is such a platform where Adolescent girls get an opportunity to express their views, ask questions and communicate about social and personal issues openly and fearlessly. This is an awareness workshop series that not only gives them information but also develops confidence and a sense of leadership in them.

Key themes and objectives of the Bedhadak Bolo workshops:

Menstrual Hygiene
In this session, adolescent girls are informed about the myths, social taboos and scientific facts related to menstruation. They are told about proper hygiene methods, use of safe products, and health precautions so that they can accept this natural process without any shame or fear.

Substance Abuse
Under this topic, teenagers were told about the ill-effects of drug addiction, its mental and physical effects and ways to avoid it. Apart from this, how to deal with peer pressure was also discussed.

Safe & Answerable Behavior
In this workshop, children were taught how to ensure their safety, especially in the digital world. Along with this, they were also explained why it is important to be responsible for their behavior and be sensitive towards others.

Touch Life (Good Touch / Bad Touch):
this session, children were told about body safety. They were taught to differentiate between good and bad touch, how to respond correctly in an uncomfortable situation and to talk to a trusted person. This is an important step towards preventing child sexual abuse in particular.

The workshops help adolescent girls understand the difference between right and wrong and take appropriate decisions in situations.

The aim of Bedhadak Bolo is not just to create awareness but also to prepare for leadership. Adolescent girls are given a platform to express their views and become agents of positive change in society.

So far, hundreds of adolescents and teens have felt more aware, confident and secure through Bedhadak Bolo. These workshops have not only changed their perspectives but have also inspired them to bring about change in their communities.
